Gulf Coast Turtle Watch is a NFP 501c3 organization on Pensacola Beach, Florida. We are dedicated to marine turtle conservation activities, community education, awareness and fundraising to support our local permitted sea turtle patrol/rescue teams. We are passionate about making more days for more turtles in the future!
Our organization was created in 2023 to assist our local sea turtle monitoring programs address the limited resources these groups encounter each season. Our board consists of permitted turtle volunteers from several monitoring teams. While our current focus is the areas of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties of Florida, our ultimate goal is to expand to a full outreach and education organization that spans beyond our two counties to become the cornerstone of sea turtle conservation efforts for all nesting beaches along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
Gulf Coast Turtle Watch was founded by Wendy Hoeflich, and with the encouragement and contributions of fellow board members Stephenie Allen, Dale Hensley, and Christine Brewster, this dream became a reality. Collectively, our team has over 25 years of sea turtle conservation experience; each individual has a true passion and drive to not only do everything possible to protect these animals now, but to make sure conservation efforts for future years have a solid foundation to continue these initiatives.
One our missions is to support the local sea turtle patrol and rescue team. This team is permitted by the state to work with sea turtles. All work is permitted under MTP-24-272, 032. This volunteer program has limited funding and the volunteers have to use their own vehicles to transport injured and stranded sea turtles. That is where we come in! Our goal is to raise enough money to buy a transport vehicle and have it wrapped with a logo.
Our Gulf Coast Turtle Watch volunteers reach out to locals and visitors by attending local events and supplying informational products to local business such as Leave No Trace and lighting.
It is important for our organization to stay connected with our local businesses and government agencies. Some of our objectives rely on their help such as lighting and awareness.
Donations are our primary source of funding, but we also have some local fundraisers throughout the year. We have events where we partner with local businesses, and we also have our Gulf Coast Turtle Watch merchandise you can purchase in our shop.
